As per the past few years, the Spanish Teachers Association will be hosting a HSC Speaking Practice Day in July/August 2020.

Date:  Spanish Continuers - 25th July 2020 9am-1pm - times allocated for virtual conversations!
Date:  Spanish Beginners - 1st August 2020 9am-1pm - times allocated for virtual conversations!

Cost: FREE

If you are bringing a number of students to this event, it is a requirement that teachers also attend to contribute to the number of different examiners available on the day.

You will need to give the coordinators details of the students email contact details and that of a parent/guardian.

While Covid19 restrictions have been in place impacting on our day to day lives in schools, the Spanish Teachers Association has not been idle. We have continued in the production of the Trial Examination papers for HSC exams with the objective of having a Beginners/Continuers and Extension trial available for purchase by members.

The Beginners paper is virtually complete - we do not need additional assistance or committee members at this point in time.  However, if you are available to assist in formatting or recording papers please contact Teresa Alonso ([email protected]).

The Continuers and Extension Paper teams still need assistance in producing texts (particularly for the Reading component, some items in the Listening of Continuers and all Extension).  Without assistance there will not be an Extension paper available to members for purchase this year.  Again, if you can assist please contact Teresa Alonso ([email protected]).

There is no payment for participation in this endeavour; however, those participating gain access to all Trial Spanish Examinations (for all levels) produced in 2020 for their school at NO COST.

This is also an excellent opportunity for Professional Development, and can be counted towards Teacher Identified hours for NESA Maintenance of Accreditation, particularly for Standards 5.1.2, 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 and 7.4.2.

The Annual General Meeting - notified to all members and previous members through email lists - took place on Thursday 17th October at 5pm at International Grammar School in Ultimo, Sydney NSW.  The meeting was attended by all current committee (5 members) and 6 other current association members with an additional 3 current members sending in proxy votes.

Previous Annual General Meeting minutes were confirmed and seconded; the report on association activities in 2019 was read and discussed; the report on financial transactions and accounts for the association was presented and the officer bearers for the committee for 2020 were voted.

The new committee for 2020 consists of Teresa Alonso (President); Kati Varela (Vice-president); Michele Storrie (Secretary); Daniel Santos (Treasurer) and Ruth Joynes (Public Officer/Public Relations).  The members present also voted to create a new position of Resources Coordinator, in order to meet objectives outlined for the coming year - that role was voted as for Juliette Bates.
